Description

Welcome to the inaugural WARP (Warsaw AstRo-Physics) meeting!

WARP is a new initiative designed to integrate the Warsaw research community active in (astro)particle physics, astrophysics, astronomy, cosmology, and related fields. The meetings aim to accelerate collaboration and scientific exchange within our community by bringing together invited renowned international researchers, distinguished local experts, and early-career scientists to discuss the most pressing issues and recent breakthroughs in these fields.

The First WARP Meeting

Our first meeting will focus on cosmological anomalies, with a special emphasis on the current challenges and tensions in the measurement of the expansion rate of the Universe.

We are honored to host Dr. Eleonora Di Valentino (University of Sheffield) for our inaugural keynote colloquium. Dr. Di Valentino is a leading expert in observational cosmology, co-leader of the Cosmoverse initiative, and the principal author of key review papers in this field.

Following the colloquium, we will host a moderated, 50-minute expert debate diving deeper into cosmological anomalies. The debate will feature leading experts from our Warsaw institutes: Prof. Marek Biesiada (NCBJ), Prof. Maciej Bilicki (CFT PAN), Prof. Marek Demiański (FUW), who will join Dr. Di Valentino to discuss the topic.

The meeting will conclude with a special session for early-career researchers, dedicated to short presentations showcasing the latest research on cosmological data interpretation from our colleagues across Warsaw's scientific institutes.

Cracks in the Standard Cosmological Model: Anomalies, Tensions, and Hints of New Physics 1h

The ΛCDM model has long served as the standard paradigm in cosmology, offering a remarkably successful description of the Universe’s evolution. Yet, as observational precision continues to improve, persistent tensions have emerged across a range of probes, including the well-known Hubble constant discrepancy. While individual datasets may each align with ΛCDM, their collective interpretation reveals significant discordances that challenge the model’s internal consistency. In this talk, I will review the most prominent tensions in modern cosmology and assess their implications. I will present recent results pointing to hints of dynamical dark energy and interactions within the dark sector. I will also reflect on the growing influence of methodological choices, such as dataset selection and model assumptions, in shaping our cosmological conclusions.
